Qipao (旗袍) or cheongsam (長衫) as some may call it, was never something I was particularly interested in. I perceived it as old fashioned, too formal and traditional for my liking until I got an invite to my friend’s wedding and saw the theme - “Old Shanghai”. Great! I thought to myself. Where do I get myself a nice and modern yet affordable qipao that I wouldn’t mind wearing? I searched and searched, no luck. There was absolutely nothing I liked and wanted to wear so I decided to design my own. That was my first time wearing a qipao and I have never felt so feminine and confident in my life. I immediately fell in love! There is just something about the mandarin collar and fitted silhouette that makes you look so elegant and graceful.
Yes, passion is an important element in business in order to be successful and my passion for qipaos/cheongsams grow day by day as soon as I decided to start it as a business, after seeing the gap in the market. I want to create qipaos that are not only contemporary but also chic and wearable. Whenever I see our Qipology girls put on a qipao that I designed, I get goosebumps just because my dream became reality and they look absolutely beautiful in them. I’m sure a lot of you will agree.
To come up with the name Qipology (旗袍邏輯) which defines as ‘the science of qipao’ took me quite a long time. I wanted a brand name that is modern but also something that shows that we are serious about what we do. There is still a long way to go and many things we need to do as a brand, but I wake up every morning excited to go to work because I get to design pieces that make girls not only look but also feel beautiful.
Love,
Julie
